NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE – APRIL 2020 EDITION

Posted by on Apr 17, 2020 in Events, Ottawa Gaels, Uncategorized | Comments Off on NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE – APRIL 2020 EDITION

Dear Ottawa Gaels, We have now been living with the COVID-19 restrictions for over a month, and I hope that you are adjusting to our “new normal” as best you can.  I appreciate that it is a difficult adjustment to make for many not only due to the financial hardships you may be suffering but also learning to cope with the isolation of having to be away from family and friends.  It is a challenging time but remember we are all in this together and more than ever it is important to remain unified as a Club. Despite the COVID-19 restrictions that we are currently living, I think there are simple acts of kindness that we should continue to practice.   Stay connected to your fellow members rather be it by a phone call, zoom call or email.  Reach out to those who may be feeling lonely or down.  Whatever method works, just follow through.  We need to be there for each other. It is also really important to stay healthy both physically and mentally.  The best way to stay healthy is to get those happy endorphins going.  Go for a run, walk or bike ride! Download the free Nike App and start fitting in workout sessions during the day. “Just do it”.  Organize group work out sessions remotely.  Play with your kids.  Run after your kids. Tackle your dog and maybe your spouse. Whatever works. I appreciate that for most of us our entire world has been turned upside down but we need to stay resilient and keep the faith.  Life will get better.  It might take a few more months but life will get back to normal slowly but surely.  If you are safe at home, consider it a blessing.  You will likely never have this kind of downtime again in your life.  Embrace it, don’t fight it. For all you front line workers and essential employees on this email list, thank you, thank you.  Keep up all the hard work and we love you for it! Special Announcement Despite these stressful times, love is everywhere! The Executive would like to share some wonderful news with you all.  Our very own Pat Kelly, decided to marry the lovely Mirian Graterol on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at his home in Ottawa just one day before his 70th birthday on April 12th. Busy weekend for Pat! We will be sure to celebrate both at the H&C once we have Pat’s Roast back on the calendar.  He thought he could avoid it, but not a chance.  We wish Mirian and Pat all the best! “May your troubles be less, and your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door”. An update from CGAA Chair The CGAA previously communicated a possible resumption of training and playing of Gaelic games by April 15th, but unfortunately that date has come and gone and strict controls and bans are still in effect across the country.  At this stage, the CGAA hopefully would look to a possible resumption around May 15th but again that will be very dependent on the directions of the federal and provincial governments.
