The Ottawa Gaels are returning to Almonte Celtfest on Saturday, July 8th. We will be hosting Gaelic Football youth games, a skills competition, and a football demo for parents. Be sure to stick around to watch the Ottawa Gaels ladies and men’s teams compete in exhibition play. Celtfest is a fun weekend of Ottawa Valley and Celtic entertainment, performed in the natural amphitheater of Gemmill Park in the heart of Almonte. It is a time to share the historical Celtic traditions with today’s local performers. Celtfest also presents a select group of unique artisans and vendors of specialty goods with a Celtic flair. Our annual memorial tournament honours a wonderful friend of the Gaels and celebrates the excitement of our great sport in a fun, co-ed, family-friendly Gaelic Football tournament that is not too serious and spans the ages from 14 up to 70! Ottawa Gaels well represented on Team Canada for World GAA Games in Ireland this summer

It was recently announced on the GAA website that this August the World GAA games will be played in Dublin, Ireland. More than 1,700 Gaelic footballers, hurlers and camogie players from 10 regions around the globe will be bringing Gaelic games to Ireland for the 2016 Etihad Airways GAA World Games in Dublin. A total of 87 teams from 20 countries will travel to Dublin for a week-long festival of Gaelic games activity between August 7 and 14 at UCD’s Belfield campus, with the finals being played at Croke Park. Teams from as far away as Australia, South Africa, and Argentina will be present, as well as teams from China, Canada, the Middle East, the US, Europe, and Britain. Senior Training Dates For Winter 2016

The Ottawa Gaels Senior training dates for the first months of 2016 are now scheduled. From January though April, we’ll get together for Co-Ed training sessions at indoor field locations throughout the Ottawa region. These training sessions will culminate in competition dates in April including: Superleague matches on April 9th and the 2016 Spring Thaw Co-ed Tournament on April 30th. Mike Robinson and the tournament named in his honour

Mike Robinson was a special education teacher, avid outdoorsman, father, husband, soccer player, cyclist, cross country skier, hockey player, Gaelic footballer and friend to many. Tragically, he died in July 2010 in a plane crash in Radisson, Quebec on his way to the drop off point for a canoe trip in northern Quebec. This tournament, held every September, honours his memory. It seeks to captures the sportsmanship and fun that were the hallmarks of Mike’s contribution to the club in his time as a club member from 2006-2010. He played with the Mens’ team in league and championship games over those four seasons; made it out to practices when he wasn’t away canoeing and he was an ever present at the Friday night Algonquin Dome games over the winters of 2008 and 2009.
