The Continental Youth Championships are Underway

The Continental Youth Championships (CYC) and the Ottawa Gaels are there. Randall’s Island, in New York City, is hosting more than 2,000 young athletes ages 6 to 18.  Videographer extraordinaire, Jerome Quinn, who spent time with us in Ottawa is there too, posting video reports from largest youth tournament of its kind outside Ireland. Here’s Jerome’s update from Day one.   When there’s been a break in the competition schedule, Gaels players and families have been taking time to explore Manhattan Island, checking out some of the major landmarks, including the world famous Grand Central Station and Times Square. Updated World Cup Pool Standings – July 1st

Uncertainty is the only certainty at the end of the Round of 16. See the attached standings at the completion of the Group Stage as well as a list of everyone’s picks for the Championship and Consolation games. Just a reminder, a correct pick in this round is worth 4 points so the grand prize of $250 could go to any of you at this stage (well, except maybe to K&T Canning, AG and Sooze who only have one team remaining going in to the knockout stage. The Ottawa Gaels 2014 World Cup Pool is Underway!

We had a whopping 67 entries in our World Cup Pool — thanks to all who entered!  We look forward to following the tournament with you …. and trash talking along the way. A list of all pool entries and their picks can be found here in PDF format. 67 entries means we have $335 up for grabs. $85 will go to the leader at the completion of the group stage and $250 to the overall winner at the end of the tournament. Results will be posted here at as the group stage standings are finalized and at the completion of the tournament. Co-ed Recreational League Set for June

The Ottawa Gaels have organized a Co-ed Recreational League for  Senior and Youth teams, taking place each Saturday in the month of June. The sessions will feature 7 or 9 players a side, with 5-10 minutes spent on basic skills before beginning 10-15 minute games.
