Join us for a pub trivia night fundraiser on Saturday, March 22nd at the Heart & Crown Byward Market! In 2001, Julia Roberts won the Oscar for best actress. Who were the other nominees? If these trivial facts are bouncing around in your grey matter, then the Ottawa Gaels have got a night for you! We’re hosting a pub quiz night at Heart & Crown Byward Market on March 22nd at 7:00 PM. Teams of 4 or 6 are welcome, or we can match individuals to teams. Cost is $15 a player. Prizes for the top teams, spot prizes, as well as a raffle draw for more loot will be up for grabs! We are hosting a Gaelic Football introduction and training session in Riverside South. Bring out your kids – all ages welcome – to learn how to play this fast paced and exciting sport. The game draws on skills and aspects from many sports including soccer, basketball, volleyball and football. We are excited to be hosting Tom Murphy, a highly qualified coach from Ireland this summer to run our youth program. The sport is offered in the high school Phys Ed curriculum in Gr 7 & 8 at the Ottawa Catholic School Board is gaining more traction in the City. The Ottawa Gaels founding father and successful Ottawa businessman Pat Kelly, from Co. Galway, Ireland was presented with the inaugural Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad in the category of Arts, Culture and Sport on November 15th, 2012, . The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, presented the award in Dublin, Ireland. Pat was among an esteemed group, one of 10 people from around the world — and the only Canadian — to be receive this prestigious award.
