Announcing the first annual Jarlath Connaughton Memorial Bursary

The Ottawa Gaels GAA are pleased announce the first annual Jarlath Connaughton Memorial Bursary starting in February 2023. The application form opens February 15th and submission deadline is May 15th, 2023.

The Ottawa Gaels GAA will award an annual $500 bursary to a student entering or in full-time post-secondary studies who best exemplifies the attributes, and demonstrates the legacy, of late Club member, Jarlath (“JC”) Connaughton. Jarlath was a beloved and contributing member of the Ottawa Gaels GAA and greater CGAA community. Sadly, he passed away in 2021.

Joining the Club in 1999, Jarlath was a treasured Ottawa Gaels member and a dedicated volunteer for over 20 years. His contribution to the Club and GAA community extended, but was not limited to: Executive committee member, Coach, Referee, Volunteer, as well as devoted friend, father, and colleague.

Jarlath had a passion and interest in the development of youth Gaelic Games, demonstrated by being one of four founding members of the Continental Youth Championship (CYC), a youth tournament that has grown into the largest Youth Gaelic Games event outside of Ireland.

The bursary’s successful candidate will have the characteristics, experience, and vision that would honour Jarlath’s memory as a consummate Club member and volunteer.

The Jarlath Connaughton Memorial Bursary is open from February 15th to May 15th, annually. Late submissions will not be considered.
