The Ottawa Gaels invite you to join us for the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM), taking place on Sunday, October 25th at 4pm. This year’s AGM will be held virtually. The link will be provided closer to the day. Our AGM gives our members and supporters an opportunity to hear from our board about the association’s performance and achievements over the past year. Join us as we review the year’s highlights and select our executive committee for the coming year. The AGM is open to all registered members of the Ottawa Gaels. Camogie (ka-moe-gi) is an Irish team sport played by women on grass with a wooden stick (hurley) and a small ball called a sliotar (sli-ter). Camogie is played by 100,000 women in Ireland and worldwide, largely among Irish communities. A variant of the game of hurling (which is played by men only) adapted to suit women, it is organised by the Dublin-based Camogie Association or An Cumann Camógaíochta.The annual All Ireland Camogie Championship has a record attendance of over 33,000, while average attendances in recent years are in the region of 15,000 to 18,000. The final is broadcast live, with a TV audience of as many as over 300,000 being claimed. UNESCO lists Camogie as an element of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Dear Ottawa Gaels, As Ottawa slowly begins to reopen, the Ottawa Gaels are excited to be working on our “Return To Play” protocols for the Mens and Ladies teams! We are pleased to announce that we will be returning to training from August 13, 2020 to September 24, 2020 at the Notre Dame High School field (710 Broadview Avenue, Ottawa) assuming the Ontario Provincial guidelines do not change. In regards to the youth program, we will provide an update in the late summer to determine the feasibility of a “Return To Play” in the fall for the youth.
