NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE – JULY 2020 EDITION

Dear Ottawa Gaels,

As Ottawa slowly begins to reopen, the Ottawa Gaels are excited to be working on our “Return To Play” protocols for the Mens and Ladies teams! We are pleased to announce that we will be returning to training from August 13, 2020 to September 24, 2020 at the Notre Dame High School field (710 Broadview Avenue, Ottawa) assuming the Ontario Provincial guidelines do not change. In regards to the youth program, we will provide an update in the late summer to determine the feasibility of a “Return To Play” in the fall for the youth.

We are acting with a great deal of caution in order to safeguard the health of our membership and your families. Your health and safety continues to be the Ottawa Gaels highest priority.

We would invite you to review the Return to Gaelic Games Guidelines https://gaelicgamescanada.com/wp-content/uploads/1.0_CGAA_Return-to-Gaelic-Games_Guidelines_EN.pdf in advance of any Return to Play as it is a comprehensive COVID-19 Response as to how the CGAA clubs should be proceeding with training in the near future. Kindly note these guidelines are subject to modification should the Ontario Provincial Governments’ guidelines change.

As a quick reference, the CGAA has also prepared a two-page guideline setting out how teams and players should conduct themselves in advance of training and at training. Kindly familiarize yourself with the guidelines below in advance of any Return to Play. We will communicate our action plan as soon as it has been finalized.

 Final Word from the Chairperson

A huge shout out to all those that assisted in the assembly of 50 COVID Care packages for the Ottawa Senior Irish Community. The Ottawa Gaels joined forces with the Ottawa Irish COVID-19 Action Committee and were delighted to be able to provide some much needed “TLC” to our Irish Seniors. This initiative would not have been possible without the financial support from the Department of Foreign Affairs (“DFA”) of Ireland who provided the necessary funding for this project. The Irish Ambassador, Jim Kelly and Laura Finlay, Second Secretary at the Irish Embassy were instrumental in getting this project off the ground. The DFA has also provided financial support to the Ottawa Irish Covid-19 Action Committee to provide gift cards from local grocery stores for those who may be in need. Please contact me directly if you would like assistance or know someone in the Irish community who may benefit from this program.

We also would like to thank Kelly Santini LLP for their assistance with the COVID Care package initiative. Below are some photographs from the assembly line as well as from the distribution day that we thought you might enjoy.

On a final note, I would like to say that you can always count on the Ottawa Gaels to support you no matter what. We fully appreciate that these are difficult times for many, both financially and mentally. If you need support of any kind, please reach out to the Executive members. We are always pleased to be of assistance.

Stay safe.
