Men’s Team Triumph at Montreal May Tournament

This past weekend, the Ottawa Gaels Senior men’s team traveled to Montreal for the Montreal Shamrocks annual May tournament. 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the Shamrocks, so this year’s tournament took on a special meaning which was reflected in the participating clubs who came from Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto, Halifax, Calgary and Albany (NY).
Our men’s team took part in the junior competition, bringing a panel of 15 players with mixed levels of experience. At the end of a great day Ottawa came home champions for the third time in four years, after beating Calgary and Albany in group play, Halifax in the semifinals and then Calgary again in the final.
With everyone getting a run out and some hands on ball, the day was a great success and an important kick-off to our season!
As a club focused on player development and building awareness for Gaelic games in the National Capital Region, we’re always looking for new players or those simply interested in trying out our sport. If you’re interested in trying out the game at a training session or would like to learn more about the team, please contact info@ottawagaels.ca.
