The Ottawa Gaels will be running two Gaelic Football coaching courses this year on Sunday, April 30th. Many of you are already coaching our young athletes and this course will further strengthen your coaching resources. The Gaels want to encourage more seniors to get the training and join us on the field, as the feedback our club has received form the parents and the kids is that the youth really look up to us (especially the girls!) and are excited to be coached by senior players, who they see as role models. The Foundation Award is an official GAA certificate, and you can get more details at http://learning.gaa.ie/node/268590. The Foundation Award is a theory and practical course so you are asked to bring gym clothes and sneakers. The Gaels will also provide you with some online prep work prior to the course. You will also need to provide a Police check – Vulnerable Sector, which is a standard requirement for all sporting organizations. If you do not already have a police check, the Ottawa Gaels will provide you with a volunteer letter so that your police check is free. March with us in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and then join us for the Beau’s Party at Lansdowne! The Ottawa Gaels are excited to once again be taking part in the annual Irish Society of The National Capital Region Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 11th, 2017. The Parade will leave the intersection of Elgin St. and Laurier Avenue West at 11:00am, proceed westward along Laurier to Bank Street and then south on Bank Street to Lansdowne Park. At the conclusion of the parade, Lansdowne will be home to the Beau’s St. Patrick’s Day Party inside the Aberdeen Pavilion. The party begins at noon and runs until 10pm will feature live Irish entertainment, activities and more! While you’re there, be sure to stop by the Ottawa Gaels booth. We’ll be on-site, providing demonstrations and will have games and information available for visitors who are curious about our great sport. The next generation of Gaelic Footballers in Canada’s Capital will gather in Barrhaven on June 12th for the Ottawa Gaels annual Youth Blitz Tournament. The tournament is the culmination of our spring and summer youth training programs that take place across the city. Teams will be made up on the morning of the tournament following registration. Continuous games will run from 10am until 1pm. Competition will be divided by ages: U8, U10, U12 and U14, boys and girls mixed but not age groups. There will be a BBQ from 1-2pm.
