Filmmaker Seeks Photos of Irish Emigrants
Irish Filmmaker Cathal Kenna is producing a feature length documentary film called Coming Home. The documentary follows a selection of Irish emigrants on their journeys as they return to and depart from Ireland in search of a better life. The concept of home and what it means to different people is at the heart of this intimate portrayal of Irish emigrant life. Cathal Kenna is looking for photos of Irish emigrants both young and old. His film will feature a closing sequence displaying photos of Irish emigrants from all over the world. Group, family, sports team & individual shots all welcome preferably with some Irish identifying clothing/paraphernalia and interesting backdrops. Thomas Murphy arrives from Ireland to coach Ottawa Gaels Youth
The Ottawa Gaels are excited to announce the arrival of Thomas Murphy aka TomTom from County Carlow! Thomas will be joining the Gaels from May to August 2014 as the Gaelic Football Development Coach for the youth program, special-guest-star-coach-fitness-enforcer for the women’s senior team, and practice player with the men’s squad. Thomas graduated from the Institute of Technology Carlow with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sport Management and Coaching and is a certified Level 1 GAA coach. He has a 2012 Senior League title with his home football club, Palatine GAA; and won the All-Ireland Intermediate College football championship with I.T Carlow in 2013. Mike Robinson and the tournament named in his honour
Mike Robinson was a special education teacher, avid outdoorsman, father, husband, soccer player, cyclist, cross country skier, hockey player, Gaelic footballer and friend to many. Tragically, he died in July 2010 in a plane crash in Radisson, Quebec on his way to the drop off point for a canoe trip in northern Quebec. This tournament, held every September, honours his memory. It seeks to captures the sportsmanship and fun that were the hallmarks of Mike’s contribution to the club in his time as a club member from 2006-2010. He played with the Mens’ team in league and championship games over those four seasons; made it out to practices when he wasn’t away canoeing and he was an ever present at the Friday night Algonquin Dome games over the winters of 2008 and 2009.
