On October 25th, the Ottawa Gaels held their Virtual Annual General Meeting and looked back on a very successful, but interesting year for the club. In addition to reviewing last year’s highlights, the Gaels turned their attention towards the future, nominating a new club for the 2020-2021 season. This group will guide the Gaels through the coming season, working hard to build on the success of the past year and to maintain the tremendous momentum that has propelled our association forward. Highlights for the coming year include: putting together and distributing COVID care packages for the Ottawa Irish community, a safe and successful Return to Play for our Senior Men’s and Ladies’s Gaelic Football teams, and the addition of a Camogie Program thanks to support from the GAA and Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Global Games Development Fund. Camogie (ka-moe-gi) is an Irish team sport played by women on grass with a wooden stick (hurley) and a small ball called a sliotar (sli-ter). Camogie is played by 100,000 women in Ireland and worldwide, largely among Irish communities.
